after searching this record for months i've finally got it.
originally released in new zealand months ago the a-side "hope"
was played on gilles peterson's worldwide show and on the
jazzanova radio show several times. now it finally got re-released
on the uk-label kartel for all the people in europe desperately
     looking for it.

the artists behind fat freddies drop, joe dukie and fitchie
(dallas and mu), met 5 years ago and have been collaborating ever
since. in 1999 dallas (joe dukie) released his debut ep 'better
than change' which was well received by local music media and the
title track gained extensive radio and video play. these two
talents are the alter ego's of wellington's dj mu and vocalist
dallas tamaira, gaining momentum with their band fat freddy's
drop, who have been rocking the live scene in new zealand for the
last couple of years. recently dj fitchie and joe dukie did the
12inch "midnight marauders" on sonar kollektiv's sublabel best
seven. their next release will be called "this room" and will be
released on best seven in october 2003.

here is some info about the band from their official website:

from wellington's heart comes a collaboration of six musicians,
creating fat freddy's drop. these accomplished players deliver a
quality sound that swings between improvisation and crafted songs.
their presence on stage never fails to turn heads, whatever the
     crowd.
driven by dj mu (roots foundation, bongmaster) and his beloved mpc
2000, fat freddy's drop has been playing for 2 years around new
zealand. vocalist dallas ("better than change") gives the soul and
ian gordon (bongmaster, ebb) adds his distinctive analogue sound
on keys. the brass does not get any better with warren maxwell on
saxophone (frontman of trinity roots) and toby laing (black seeds)
on trumpet. rock-star guitarist tehimana kerr (old school
     exponents) keeps it dirty.

fat freddy's drop has supported mad professor, afro celt sound
system and played at womad, the gathering, wellington
international jazz festival, whopper chopper and cuba st carnival.

fat freddy's drop has successfully released their debut album,
live at the matterhorn. the have also released singles on
sugarlicks compilation "styles upon styles" and on loop
compilation #4. continious radio-play has made fat freddy's an
international integral sound for aotearoa's pacific flavours.
