With Special Guest: "Oleta Adams"
Tears For Fears - idiosyncratic yet quintessential exponents of
smart 1980's pop - in a gorgeous live concert recorded in Santa
Barbara, California (1989). This is a special moment for Tears For
Fears, perhaps their musical peak. The duo of Curt Smith and Roland
Orzabal had defined an unusual sound, heady and intellectual yet
polished and danceable. Teen listeners responded with fervent
adoration. The biggest hits: "Shout", "Everybody Wants To Rule
The World" and others, are given intense treatment here. Yet other
great songs, perhaps not as well-remembered today, also come
to amazing life in this concert: "Woman In Chains", "I Believe",
"Year Of The Knife", "Head Over Heels" and more. And with the
astonishing, gospel-tinged singing of Oleta Adams, Tears For Fears
was finding a newly sophisticated style. A benchmark moment, and a
beautiful performance, from a great band.
