in a small bedroom in a blighted neighborhood on the northwest
side of detroit, with only a collection of vintage keyboards, and
mpc, and a microphone, ayro has created electroniclovefunk, his
extraordinary debut full-length album on omoamusic.
electroniclovefunk is a love story, told from the very beginning.
in each song, ayro expresses a chapter of his own emotional
journey through the joy and pain of falling in love.
ayro wrote, produced, played, and sang nearly every note of every
song on the album. raw, experimental, and eclectic, it traverses
genres of soul, jazz, pop, rock, and techno. it is album of warm
analog chords, lush polyrhythms, and sweet vocals alongside jazz
improvisations.
born to family of musicians generations deep, ayro (born jeremy
ellis) began studying piano at the age of 5. continuing studying
classical and then jazz piano through his youth, ayro became well
known in detroit jazz and electronic music circles through playing
with renown jazz/fusion group jazzhead and live electronic group
time:space, and working with legendary detroit producers carl
craig, alton miller, recloose, and others.
ayro broke out worldwide as a solo artist in 2001 with his
underground anthem, "let this". with its gospel-inspired vocals,
dexterous keyboard playing, and dirty rhythms, it opened up new
possibilities of vocal electronic soul, turning the heads of
people like gilles peterson, jazzanova, and many more. "let this"
ended up on numerous stellar compilations, including gilles
peterson's gp02, dixon's off limits 3, and alex attias' selector
series. after the release of his kinky-sweet single "drink",
followed by stunning remixes for the likes of jazzanova, fertile
ground and john arnold, ayro began working on his first
full-length, the music that became the records that is in front of
you.
electroniclovefunk promises to be one of the most anticipated
releases of the year. this prerelease limited edition of the album
is available only on vinyl at select record stores around the
world. it is something for all the djs and fans that have
supported ayro and omoamusic through the past couple years. the
album will be released on cd and vinyl in stores everywhere in the
fall. enjoy the music.
