It's difficult to fault the musicianship of Baltimore's finest
production ensemble and recording home. They are far more accessible
then their New Jersey counterparts, Masters At Work, and yet somehow
always mentioned in dispatches in a secondary role.
For me they're the real deal and this superior gospel-edge garage
collection only goes to reinforce that belief. Since 1994 the Jasper
Street Company have always made superior, spiritually-kissed house
music. And, while the band's singers have frequently changed, under
the guidance of DJ Spen, the ethos has always remained the same.
Produce quality, inspirational club anthems enriched with gospel-
inspired-messages that can be made accessible to the masses via the
club scene.
This ten-track collection predominantly charts the groups growth
since its inception, as interpreted by some of the worlds leading
remixers hence the name! It all began with the initial captivating
and dramatic release "A Feelin"; Farley & Heller the first to add
their credentials.
JSC themselves are partial to the odd spot of reinterpretation
themselves, as Mousse T adds his trademark shuffling hi-hats and
tight kick drum to the group's take on Mass Orders anthemic "Lift
Every Voice (Take Me Away)". "Love Changes" (a 70s r&b standard) gets
made over in quite superb fashion with songstress Wondress Hutchinson
aided by Boris Dlugosh's smooth post-production. While Frankie
Knuckles' contribution is the parody of Central Line's early-80s
jazz-funker "Walking Into Sunshine", aptly re-entitled "Fly Away".
Louie Vega tinkles the ivories on the sophisticated "Till I Found
You", and Roger Sanchez and Junior Vasquez respectively hijack the
tempo to make the rasping "Get Together" and "God Helps Those (Who
Help Themselves)" their own.
The balance of the album comprises a trio of new productions crowned
by Ann Nesby (formally of the Sounds Of Blackness) enveloping vocal
display on "Praisin His Name". "Another Day", the new single, aimed
at the more soul-discerning boogie-house market supported with
remixes from Blaze.
Interpretations is a wonderfully upbeat collection of sunny and
bright sounds designed to lift your spirits, and leave no room for
sadness or empty tears regardless of your religious orientation.
