█ From Paridise to Parking Lots, Pennylane had it all. No, not █
█ in the sense of fame or fortune, but when it came to the █
█ simple things that made life worth living such as family █
█ (Ohana), bountiful white sand Hawaiian beaches, meaningful █
█ friendships, and a wonderful church fellowship; Pennylane █
█ had it made. █
█ █
█ Formed in February, 2003, on the tiny western-most island of █
█ Hawaii, Kauai, the four piece rock band began a journey that █
█ would eventually convince them to give up paradise and move █
█ to the rose city of Portland, Oregon. Why would anyone make █
█ such a sacrifice? What does this say about Pennylane the █
█ band? To understand the present, one must understand their █
█ past. █
█ █
█ Against the backdrop of Hawaiian music and surf culture, the █
█ members of Pennylane grew up with a love for music that █
█ expressed their passion for living. Laine Furukawa, David █
█ Tamaoka, and Joshua Tamaoka were products of the public █
█ school music program on the island of Oahu. Kellan Craddock █
█ picked up his first guitar in the 8th grade and went from █
█ simple chords to flying riffs in no time. █
█ █
█ Call it luck, fate, or destiny that brought the boys █
█ together on the tiny island of Kauai. Whatever or whoever it █
█ was weaved the dreams of these dreamers into a single █
█ vision: Pennylane. █
█ █
█ Within months they crafted a blend of contagiously powerful █
█ rock, jumped into a friend's garage recording studio to make █
█ a five song EP, and started playing for small crowds at █
█ makeshift shows. Then, on July 2nd, 2003, Pennylane landed █
█ an opening spot at the Kuhio Lounge for the native grown █
█ roots rock outfit Pepper. To their suprise, the crowd of █
█ roughly 900 people responded to their performance by nearly █
█ tearing apart the dance floor! The experience sealed their █
█ resolve to pursue their dreams -- whatever the cost. █
█ █
█ Packing up their few belongings after several successful █
█ shows in Honolulu, they arrived in Portland, Oregon on █
█ September 5th, 2003. █
█ █
█ While struggling to find a house and day jobs, Pennylane █
█ managed to break into the local scene, meeting many friends █
█ along the way. The band was booked for many shows and word █
█ quickly got out about their catchy songs, solid █
█ musicianship, and intense stage performance. With the help █
█ of their new friends in Portland, Pennylane hopes to take █
█ there music and message to the world. █
