If you want to hear what power-trio "a la russe"
sounds like, there's no need wasting time googling or
askings
specialists. Just listen to Alkotrio: no other
Russian band comes near to them in this musical
genre.s
Alkotrio includes a jazz bassist, rock drummer and
fusion guitar player. Each of them, say the least of
it, iss
one of the best in their field at the national level.
Elastic, fat, fleshy bass of Anton Davidyants',
Dennis Popov's ingenuity and imagination, Feodor
Dosumov's unerring taste and astounding team-work
plunge the listener into overwhelming sound.
Surely, one can trace many influences in it, from
Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale and Steve Vai, to
Allan Holdsworth and John Scofield. A musician who
has chosen the style like Alkotrio's can hardly
reinvent the wheel (and scarcely should).
Still, entertaining a high esteem for style
traditions, Alkotrio easily and insistently are
keeping their own way, working out their own one and
only sound which is brightly represented in a brand
new "Baranina" (baranina means "mutton" in Russian)
CD.
How it all began:
Anton (bass) and Fyodor (guitar) met in 2004 when
Dennis had just moved to Moscow from Irkutsk
(Siberia); the guys realised they could play their
music with Dennis only. Thus, 2004 can be considered
the band's birth year.
Anton recalls: "At the very beginning we played just
all the time, every night for 3 months. Then somehow
we went on board of different bands, mostly pop and
rock, and had almost no time for pure creation. But
anyway, we try our hardest to play music we love."
