▓ Unfortunately" is the monumental third release (and ▓
▓ second full-length) by Dwayne Sodahberk for ▓
▓ tigerbeat6. This album represents one of our most ▓
▓ ambitious and fulfilling forays into modern pop ▓
▓ music. Mr. Sodahberk could no longer repress his love ▓
▓ for stringed instruments and, almost as a statement, ▓
▓ he traded his prized TR-909 drum machine for a 12- ▓
▓ string electric guitar in order to make this record. ▓
▓ Composed in semi-isolation on the outskirts of ▓
▓ Stockholm, Sweden in between European and UK tours ▓
▓ with kid606 and composing music for the the odd vodka ▓
▓ or car commercial Dwayne manages to give ▓
▓ "Unfortunately" a warm analog glow through the ▓
▓ digital thumps, tweaks, and textures. His cutely ▓
▓ aggressive pitters and patters against the ▓
▓ emotionally charged noisy bits adjoin to intriguing ▓
▓ melodies, gorgeous vocals, and solid structures to ▓
▓ make his blend of indiepoptronics and post-rocking ▓
▓ electro a well balanced soundtrack for dawn to dusk. ▓
▓ Besides folky pop in the Caetano-Veloso-gone-wrong- ▓
▓ track "Bird" and the rather beautiful, vaguely 60's ▓
▓ flavoured title track, there's room for electronic ▓
▓ and noisy pieces like the dark "Christa", dsp-electro ▓
▓ of "No Fun" and the stiff, desolate clavinet-funk of ▓
▓ "If I Could Tell You" and "Almost Cliche". There have ▓
▓ always been pop tendencies and hints of a tortured ▓
▓ singer-songwriter gone wrong on earlier Dwayne ▓
▓ Sodahberk releases, but melancholic songwriting and ▓
▓ classic indie-rock tunefullness has now fully ▓
▓ invaded Dwayne's electronica. Shards of noise, ▓
▓ fractured soundscapes, contemplative ambience and ▓
▓ heavy digital/analog processing still factor in ▓
▓ heavily, but guitars and other acoustic/electric ▓
▓ instruments have now infiltrated many of the songs on ▓
▓ "Unfortunately," the vast majority of which feature ▓
▓ vocals by Dwayne, Maria from Revlon 9, Liz Hysen (of ▓
▓ the Toronto band Picastro) and various other special ▓
▓ guests. ▓
