Released almost exactly a year on from his debut album, Bouquet, Sean Lynch
returns with his 800Beloved project with a tremendously catchy new single. Once
again, the 800Beloved sound is informed by mopey but brilliant '80s pop
influences, as if merging the sounds of mercilessly poppy C86 bands with the
darker new-wave inspired edges of The Cure. Moving into synth exploration, 'If
Butterflies Never Burned' is a very different sort of piece, venturing into
tuneful quasi-ambient instrumental terrain, while 'Malva' quite splendidly
sounds like Four Tet remixing Sigur Ros and a final untitled piece leaves your
ears ringing with the sound of reverb-smeared industrial drone.
