storming 2nd album from the tassili players, the very thin
disguise for alter egos zion train, which follows last year┤s best
selling ┤wonderful world of weed in dub┤, an album that was heaped
with praise from all angels and continues to sell well.
the album is again a bass heavy, dubbed up, spaced out affair
witha touch of unique zion train magic. that makes this essential
for all tassili players and zion train fans. available on 9
track lp and 11 track full length cd in a superb 60┤s pastiche
style sleeve. highly recommended.
personal favorite is "bass 1999" with its obsessive oriental
chant.
tassilli players is a floating pool of musicians centred around ex
cosmics and harare dread member dave hake. responsible for 5 lp's
in as many years the players have forged a strong working
relationship with production team zion train who have taken care
of the sounds on all of their recorded output.
hake is a well travelled musician who has spent extended periods
in spain and north africa, worlds away from his original stomping
ground of coventry where his contemporaries included the specials
and selector making the two tone label close to his heart. after a
brief sojourn into punk whilst living manchester, cleaning sewers,
he spread his wings and set off out into the brave new world. a
spell in a kibbutz, a stay with the bedouin in the sinai desert, a
quick exit from an embattled israel, a greek island 'desert island
dick' for a time was followed by a period of rest and refreshment
in ireland where the power of ben evnagh inspired the idea of the
tassilli players. the journey back to london took him across the
path of a man with a horn and dave hake trumpetman was born. with
hake as musical director and zion train at the controls any
tassilli players excursion into version is going to be a trip
worth taking.
