la soul brother numero uno, simon james turns thing up a notch on
his guidance debut. an active member of the los angeles music
community, simon hosts a regular radio spot on the excellent
dublab.com, plays keys in local reggae/funk outfit loa rhythm, and
spins the finest in jazz, funk, soul, house and hip hop at various
venues in and around tinsel town. on the "kingsburg ep" mr. james
has enlisted the help of musicians danny hastie, gino garrafalo,
stewart killen and drew shaw to turn out two sides of soulful
uncut dancefloor funk. "kingsburg" (a1) is a sublime, stoned
chilled midtempo soul groove showcasing some lovely, heartfelt
motown style male vocal croonings, crisp percussion and soothing
sax solos. dark and lovely nu soul stylings that will appeal to
all you lovers of deep sensation and brother of soul. simon and
company turn up the heat on "variation 70" a live, feel good space
funk attack that brings to mind the classic sounds of cymande, he
tom tom club and guidance's very own space jam. plenty of
shuffling, skin tight percussion, throbbing live bass,
otherworldly keys and simmering psychadelic fender rhodes vibes to
get the party started right! flip the platter over and get more
bang for yo buck as the band throws down 2 block rockin freestyle
versions of "kingsburg" and "variation" to provide a fitting
conclusion to this soul satisfying project.
