This is probably our joint favourite Skam release ever and one of
our most played-out twelves since it came out in late 1998, at last
re-issued by the boys next door and available once again on 12ö
vinyl (all 35 minutes!!) and for the first time on glorious CD.
ôDay In A Lifeö is Push Button Objects on a mission to define the
beats rulebook, re-configuring the tunes, the strucfture and the
transition into something entirely different, fresh and
unbeleivably deep. When it first came out 5 years ago there was
simply nothing that sounded anything like it and it still sounds
deeper than the rest û from the metallic bit-crushed electronic hip
hop punch-up of the title track to the madly intricate percussive
arrangements on æNocturnal DeviceÆ (Autechre, Mantronix and EL-P
rolled into one!) to the late night twilight electroid crunch of
ôApple Sauceö, the piecing together of influences from Miami to
Detroit through to Frankfurt and into the Northwest of England is
nothing short of mesmerising. The best, though, comes with the
almighty three-track edit of ôTwistedö ôFm Scienceö and ôThe
Hamocksö, seriously one of the best stretches of music youÆll hear
for time if you ainÆt already heard it, from hip hop beats to
stripped electro to Eno-ish strings and lilting Piano licks all
processed with an originality of sound that could only be called
genius, time changes and transitions to die for and, in the end, a
rocking tune. Immense stuff, as essential as essential gets.
