Where is the most groundbreaking British house label based, do you
think? Amongst the many record shops of LondonÆs Soho? In the creative
culture of Manchester? How about in the free thinking coastal city of
Brighton? No, itÆs in Bristol, a city more known for its smoky hip hop
sounds. NRK has only been running for 3 years now but it has already
found its niche and has begun breaking interesting tracks and genres to
new audiences. Responsible in part for the growth of the new
San Francisco sound, NRK also licenses the best tracks from the cream
of the Canadian deep house scene as well as having some great
home-grown talent. Representing the San Fran crowd we have not only all
the key players - including Onionz and the unstoppable Miguel Migs
but perhaps the best track the genre has produced. Dano & Joeski,
as The Twister Pair, cut up a mariachi trumpet sample, gradually teasing
more and more in to drive the dancefloor crazy on æHorny HustleÆ.
With a deep, dubbed out groove for backing, itÆs one of the best tracks
of the past year, and is currently doing the rounds with new mixes.
Elsewhere good friends Sirus and Nick Holder take things hyper deep,
with the new æCascades Of ColorÆ and a jazz poetess wig-out respectively.
With one mixed CD and one CD of separate tracks for the price of
a single CD, NRK have shown that they not only know what clubbers
want but also album buyers too. The mix CD is perfect for getting
ready to go out, driving in the car or wandering with your Walkman.
The separated track CD is for the connoisseurs, which is important
when the tracks are this good. NRK is one of those labels you have to
check out whether you think youÆll like the track or not. All their
releases demand attention because of how well constructed
and cutting edge they are. If you donÆt buy 12` singles,
then you need this collection.
