One of the artists that helped form the bedrock of Ghostly International's
catalogue, Jeff McIlwain gets a retrospective, taking in his early EPs as
Lusine: his debut Ghostly release, 2003's Push EP is included, as is 2005's
masterful Inside/Out, plus the following year's Emerald EP, leaving a little
space for alternate versions of recent singles 'Twilight' and 'Two Dots' plus a
variant of album track 'Crowded Room' (all three based on originals lifted from
last year's A Certain Distance album). Rounding off the collection are
unreleased tracks 'John Doe' - a stop-start, electro-influenced cut from 2005 -
and 'Rubberbands (Dirty Mix)', whose minimal, glitching 4/4 tendencies strike up
a fittingly well-poised balance between dancefloor steadiness and experimental
sound design, closing the package in fine style with a steady build up to a
searingly noisy crescendo.
