dXb In 1992 Jeff Mills, Mike Banks and Robert Hood - dXb
dXb still known at that time as Underground Resistance - dXb
dXb released what was probably the most futuristic album dXb
dXb in modern electronic music: "X-102 discovers The dXb
dXb Rings Of Saturn" (Tresor.004/UR), as part of their dXb
dXb X-10... series. The tracks on X-102 were reduced to dXb
dXb minimal levels, looping with a marginal BMP rate, dXb
dXb spacey and sometimes entirely without beats. This was dXb
dXb revolutionary: listeners had just become accustomed dXb
dXb to the uncompromising Detroit techno sound that the dXb
dXb three of them had produced so far. Thus on the way to dXb
dXb Saturn they surpassed even themselves, if not a dXb
dXb decade jump then at least 15 years ahead of their dXb
dXb time. dXb

dXb The transition phase between former recording dXb
dXb techniques and the computer age resounded on the dXb
dXb album, and seemed as if it had been recorded with dXb
dXb computers that had not yet been invented. In fact, dXb
dXb the unconventional tracks resulted from a process of dXb
dXb cutting up the taped material and then pasting dXb
dXb together again. The album has not been available dXb
dXb since the end of the last century and thus it's dXb
dXb become difficult for the new generation to appreciate dXb
dXb the work. One also tends to forget that very little dXb
dXb was known at that time about the second largest dXb
dXb planet in our solar system. dXb
dXb dXb
dXb Only since the Cassini-Huygens missions have we been dXb
dXb able to gather images and awareness about Saturn, its dXb
dXb moons, and the consistency of its rings. Jeff Mills' dXb
dXb fascination for the planet remained intact but to dXb
dXb reanimate the project he had but one requirement: dXb
dXb only together with Mike Banks. Until now this hasn't dXb
dXb been possible because since the 1990's both dXb
dXb co-founding members of UR have gone their separate dXb
dXb musical ways. dXb
dXb dXb
dXb But finally they've again joined forces to activate dXb
dXb together their second Saturn mission. Indeed this dXb
dXb alone makes "X-102 rediscovers The Rings Of Saturn" a dXb
dXb milestone. But the innovators wouldn't be such if dXb
dXb they didn't rediscover the tracks from the first dXb
dXb mission (which therefore again indirectly involves dXb
dXb Robert Hood) and on that base produce new, unreleased dXb
dXb tracks reflecting their personal development and the dXb
dXb knowledge gained through modern space research. 20 dXb
dXb tracks of pure techno magic, a return to the dXb
dXb interstellar probing that brings some of the original dXb
dXb abstraction to skilful levels of contemporary dXb
dXb electronic music. This is not old-meets-new: this is dXb
dXb innovation restructured with masterly polishing - dXb
