│ In dance music terminology, the word "legendary" has been ││
│ applied to events, DJs, and producers with such wanton ││
│ disregard it has been rendered virtually meaningless. A DJ ││
│ can play a "legendary" set to 250 people in a bar in San ││
│ Francisco. A producer can make a "legendary" record of which ││
│ only 2000 copies sell. Then again, there are clubs, DJs, and ││
│ producers that really are (quote, un-quote) legendary. ││
│ Sweat, at Sir Henry's, Cork, is one such club, and its two ││
│ resident DJs, Greg Dowling and Shane Johnson -- who have ││
│ manned the decks for a smidgen under a decade -- are two ││
│ such men. Let's face it, anyone who's maintained a residency ││
│ for that long has a right to the big L. ││
│ ││
│ Given their status as DJs, producing was an easy transition ││
│ for the two Irish dons. Why they chose the monikers Fish Go ││
│ Deep (for the house project) and Fish Go Tech (for the tech ││
│ -house project) is a mystery, but they must have their ││
│ reasons. Initial releases appeared on labels such as Red, ││
│ Tuna, and Eventual before Kevin Yost's i! Records picked up ││
│ four EPs. With a keen ear for the slamming deep house track, ││
│ David Duriez also licensed a few releases for his Brique ││
│ Rouge imprint. More recently, Mazi's Gourmet Records, Neil ││
│ Aline's Chez, and Darran Nugent's excellent Elevation ││
│ Recordings have taken the proverbial bait. Who will be next? ││
