lexi, a confessed workaholic, was also in cohorts with two guys he
first met when they came to use his kennington studio. brothers
casper and darius (later to become the headrillaz) teamed up with
lexi to form elephant tranquilliser - putting out tracks on tony
thorpe's language records and crispin j glover's matrix label.
dancefloor chunky funky breakbeat was where it was at and as the
headrillaz took shape, as a natural progression from elephant
tranquilliser, lexi found himself in need of something different,
perhaps a new direction or challenge. instead of fronting for the
headrillaz as mc, which he had done at the outset, he preferred to
hang out at movement, metalheadz, swerve or jungle raves,
surrounding himself with the future sounds of drum and bass, with
the energy that would inspire the next level.
lexi's love of d&b was shared by fellow brixtonite freq nasty, who
he soon teamed up with, releasing their first track entitled
timebomb (transatlantic records) followed by kryptonite which was
plated at the time by the likes of fabio and shy fx. with lexi's
influence the house and the funk and freq's harder metal edged
sound their working relationship was a strong and productive one,
that gained great respect on the underground.
