          Live on Proton Radio (www.protonradio.com):

Steven Caicedo's interest began when he bought his first
pair of turntables after completing boot camp in the
summer of 1997. Like many DJs, he taught himself how to
spin records by watching and emulating the DJs he
admired. Eventually, he developed a sound of his own,
which he classifies as "deep house with a moody
progressive edge". Steven grew up with his older
brother, sister and Columbian born parents in Queens,
New York. By age 16, he found himself sneaking out of
his parentÆs house eager to check out local DJs at
Manhattan's infamous Tunnel nightclub, namely Danny
Teneglia. Little did he know that only five years later,
he would fortuitously find himself inside the DJ booth
of that very same club, playing his records and perhaps
even influencing an upcoming generation of DJs.

It was late night excursions such as these, where Steven
discovered a source of freedom, excitement and
inspiration, ultimately awakening his own dreams of
conducting music behind a set of turntables. While DJing
began as a part time hobby for Steven, it developed into
a habit that stretched outside the walls of his
apartment. "It became an extension of the hobby...it was
something I did so I could invite my friends to hear me
play in a place other than my room on a proper sound
system." In addition, he wanted to put his record
collection to use, which now easily exceeds ten
          thousand.

After years of bedroom performances and house party
practice sessions, Steven soon found himself playing
live for the first time at New York City's Bowery
Ballroom in May of 1999, attracting the attention of
both club promoters and managers alike. Tom Kim, of
Nettwerk Management, describes the first time he heard
Steven play, "I knew Steven had talent the first time I
saw him spin back in 1999. He has an ability to read the
crowd, teasing them with minimal tracks and then
dropping the anthems at the precise moments to make
people lose their heads. The consistency of his track
selection and his smooth mixing always impresses meàhe
is a humble and modest person always smiling."

In 2000, Steven was invited to Rotterdam, Holland at the
Symphonic Night in Club Cozmik, his first international
gig. The Symphonic concept is a truly unique idea where
only one DJ performs at least an eight-hour set û "one
DJ one night." Steven eagerly pursued the challenge and
was not worried since he has had considerable opening
experience for acts like Basement Jaxx, Fatboy Slim,
Lenny Kravitz, and Moby. This was his chance to show an
international audience who he really is and what he is
about. Cass, Nigel Dawson, Chris Fortier, Danny Howells,
Anthony Pappa and Remy all have played previously. That
night caught the ears of other promoters in Holland
which prompted other gigs at Now and Wow (Rotterdam) and
Club Stalker (Haarlem) the following month and a NYE's
party at Cozmik. Most recently, Steven returned to
Stalker and appeared at The Kremlin in Amsterdam with
San and James Holden in January 2002.

His live sets epitomize what Steven does best; creating
and sculpting a particular atmosphere through his
intricate mixes, rather than simply spinning one record
after another, as many DJs have taken to doing. His
mixing style is smooth, refined and focused, while never
losing its momentum. The audience will not see Steven
showboating while heÆs manning the decks, instead he
will focus on the mixer, twisting knobs for the right
audible levels. In order to maintain a natural flow
during his sets, Steven tends to build on musical themes
û often incorporating a third turntable to bring parts
of previously played tracks back into the mix. Steven
chooses a "less is more" approach, layering subtle
harmonies, and putting as much consideration into
matching keys as he does into beat matching.
"Programming is what sets DJs apart from each other, I
do not want to sound like the other progressive DJ by
playing the same tracks," says Steven.

Without a doubt, Steven is gaining recognition as he
plays at super-clubs that invite DJs such as Danny
Howells, Anthony Pappa, and John Digweed. In New York,
Steven co-hosts his monthly Plant Bar nights with guests
Chris Fortier and Jas from Saw Recordings. Outside the
New York area, Steven has played an extensive set of
cities, including Boston, Boulder, Miami, San Francisco,
Sacramento, Washington D.C., and even inside a cave at
San Juan, Puerto RicoÆs Organico party in November of
          1999.

Taking advantage of the Internet radio medium, Steven
hosts a weekly radio show on www.ProtonRadio.com every
Friday with special guest mixes. Broadcast manager Sam
Packer was eager to have Steven become a weekly host
since the goal of Proton is to broadcast and promote
fresh faces with unique sounds. "When I first heard
Steven's mixes, I immediately wanted more and for others
to hear them," says Sam. In addition Sam praises Steven
since "his mixes vary from deep house to pounding
progressive, all of which have that unmistakable Steven
Caicedo feel and sound." Since his weekly show began,
Steven has attracted a dedicated audience which has been
steadily increasing, partly because he is featuring
guest mixes from DJ San (Combined Forces, The Kremlin),
Jas (Saw Recordings) and Lemon 8 (Bedrock) to name a
few, along with his own live and pre-recorded mixes.
Listeners from France, Peru, Holland, and throughout the
US have been writing to Proton praising Steven for his
track selection, smooth mixing, and ever-growing number
of sets. Phil Jason (Jas) jokingly said, "when anyone
talks about Steven's mixes, one has to ask which one
because there are so many out thereàall different."

Steven owes much of his own motivation and inspiration
to his father, whom, sadly, on Steven's 20th birthday,
passed away. His untimely death caused Steven to
reexamine his own life, to understand how important it
is to live life to fullest by following his own dreams
and passions. He soon began to channel all of his
emotional confusion into his spinning and felt driven to
perfect his craft. "My father was the one person that
embraced my love of music ever since I was a baby," says
Steven. He would always put music on for me in my crib
and by the time I was 2, I was putting on the music for
him...and I guess, in some way, I still play music for
him, even though he's not physically here."

Steven is no stranger to the business side of music
either. He is currently working with Undercover Music
Group (UCMG) and Intergroove Distribution as marketing
director. One of his goals is to raise awareness for
their artists like Terry Lee Brown Jr., Kasey Taylor,
and Timewriter as well as the numerous labels
distributed by Intergroove. Before this, he worked for
Astralwerks in Retail Marketing setting up new accounts,
finding new markets and brainstorming ways for more
exposure. Despite his considerable talent and resume,
Steven is just 23 years old; his talent, drive and
experience, in many ways, surpass his age. He is
determined to release originally produced materials and
a mixed album. Because of label downsizing of staff and
projects, "Dutch Sessions" was cancelled. Despite this
disappointment, Steven is not deterred to seek new
labels and continue mixing. "It actually was good that
Dutch Sessions did not come out, since the label was not
prepared to promote the mix properly, it would have just
sat on the shelf. I want a label committed to me and
          vice versa," says Steven.

Ultimately, Steven hopes to take electronic dance music
to a new level. For now though, he is content with his
progress, "IÆm starting to realize how valuable time is,
and how it really isnÆt worth the comfort of having
normalcy. As IÆm living right now I'm starting to
realize that the saying is true, 'you only get out what
you put in.'" Steven is putting all he has to achieve
his goals, and he is patient to let his talent and
          audience grow.

1REAL might be looking for new members, you never know.

We might have a public channel, we dont have a web site,
and we definately dont have an e-mail address.

If you feel you have something to contribute, and want
to be part of an open-minded, electronic focused group
with plenty tall blonde swedish girls, come and find us.
