│ Mettle Music's superb long player "Honeycomb Lounge" caused ││
│ a sensation last year with its superb, intricate ││
│ arrangements, tight production and sheer musicality. Fast- ││
│ forward to 2003 and the next installment of the Mettle Music ││
│ story is a new album "Moodswings", penciled for release in ││
│ September. "Capture", the first release from the album and ││
│ their first release in over a year (from the development in ││
│ their production it's obvious they've not been sitting on ││
│ their back sides!). There are 2 versions from the boys ││
│ themselves alongside a re-rub from one Mr. Chris Lum. Mettle ││
│ Music get things going first with Part One, a stripped down ││
│ beatless arrangement of the track which brings the evocative ││
│ and original vocal to the fore, backed with amazing live ││
│ strings and delicate rhodes. Useful for the more creative ││
│ heads amongst you. Part Two takes a bit of a left turn ││
│ utilising an original abstract dubby house arrangement with ││
│ crisp beats and deep sub bass, which plays perfectly against ││
│ the warm string arrangement. Chris Lum's mix has all the ││
│ trademark touches that have made him such an in-demand ││
│ producer. The bass is squelched up and paired back, the ││
│ vocal is condensed into short hooks which sit on top of his ││
│ ever-present lush synths and the whole track is turned into ││
│ the kind of late-night drifting which he does so well. A ││
│ fitting first single and a sign of the quality on offer from ││
│ the rest of the album! ││
