paine' is one the most active djs and producers in the italian
underground scene. in 1995 together with dj lele sacchi he starts
compl8 (spelled complotto), a project that brings him to the best
clubs all over italy like their headquearter tunnel (milano).
their mixed sessions are broadcasted on the national 'radio rai
2'. in 1997 signs with temposphere records (division of the
italian jazz label right tempo) releasing a few tracks on 12".
debut album 'simplemente asi'' follows in 1999 with the support of
label a&r, gak sato. since then paine' works with the vj
collective sun wu-kung (now called grain), making audio-visual
live sets and composing soundtracks for short films. the videos
were broadcasted at: sonar festival 2000-2001, monter/sampler
festival (pompidou, paris 2000), netmage (bologna, 2001-02), arte
tv, rai sat tv and more festivals in europe.
during his djing career paine' played with artists like amon
tobin, herbaliser, vadim (ninja tune), quantic (tru-thoghts),
madrid de los austrias (sunshine), kid loco, gilles peterson,
gotan project, comet lab (comet), piero umiliani, colorblind
(plein gaz), storm (metalheads), volcov (archive / neroli), simone
serritella (solaria), krust (full cycle) and many others.
2002-2003 is a quite busy season for he's djing monthly at the
ninja tune nights ╘groove in the box╒ and 'i maniaci dei dischi╒
sessions' (cox 18, milano) aside from touring all over italy.
recently he played at arezzo wave festival (italy), sequence
networks festival (vienna, 2002), phonic:hoop (brighton, uk),
batofar (paris, fr) and soon will tour france, austria, portugal
and japan.
his dj style is an eclectic combination of jazz beats with a
dancefloor attitude, mixing broken beats with deep house, hip hop,
breakbeat, funk, soul, drum'n'bass and almost every kind of
danceable music.
since 1999, with dj fonx and dj herrera he has a side 4 turntables
- 3 djs project i maniaci dei dischi (out now with 'our house ep',
preview of the album on temposphere) that created a certain buzz
in the italian club music press.
paine' has recently released the single 'bene' with remixes from
the herbaliser and quantic. in march 2003 will be released his
second album "spontaneous" on temposphere, plus a 12" of the title
track with remixes from volcov and gak sato.
soon remixes for quantic (tru-thoughts), acoustic dub messengers
(temposphere), electrosacher aside of tracks for compilations
worldwide (japan, uk, portugal). paine' radio session will be
broadcasted in spring by: bttb (germany), milkaudio (canada +
web), ubiquity friday sessions (sf, usa), totallyradio (uk), and
more.
