│ ALBUM REVIEWS │
│ │
│ │
│ This is a great piece of work. Original and provoking. It's easy to find │
│ psytrance, have you noticed there's a lot of it? It's not so easy to │
│ find something that tries to play with a genre. Who said PsyTrance was │
│ supposed to be all happy anyway? I heard this album for the first time │
│ back in 99 and it took me a while to overcome the dark atmosphere and │
│ enjoy it for what it is. It wasn't until recently I figured out why that │
│ was a good thing. I've heard a LOT of music between 99 and today! but │
│ this one of those rare ones that sticks in your head. Well done │
│ Xenomorph! │

│ │
│ │
│ This album in my opinion is absolutely groundbreaking. First of all the │
│ downright horror element to this,is to my knowledge, the first to try to │
│ scare the living shit out of you. Secondly, even if you ignore the vocal │
│ samples, the sounds on it perfectly complement the mood of the album │
│ and,in typical Koyote fashion,is among the top produced and released │
│ albums in this genre. I give this album a 10!!! Also can't wait for the │
│ new one. │

│ XENOMORPH :: Biography & Concept │
│ │
│ I started making music playing bass-guitar in a berlin-based wave band │
│ called Fog-Drowning in 1986 which developed more and more into a │
│ goth-band in 1987. In 1990 I left the band to form my own Electronic │
│ Body Music-Band called Terminal Warfare. In this band I was the lead │
│ singer, wrote the lyrics, arranged, sampled etc. │
│ │
│ We had some nation-wide gigs including an avant garde festival in │
│ Chemnitz, where I used to drum on some metal trash percussion whilst │
│ singing. I also played keyboards in a very dark electronic band called │
│ Whipped of Trench. With this one we did not perform live except once │
│ supporting DIVE in the local club Eimer. Between 1994 and 1995 I played │
│ rhythm guitar in a crossover band called The Unknown. I was also caring │
│ for sampling, providing synths, recording and engineering. We got out of │
│ it on stage a couple of times, where I played rhythm guitar, bass and │
│ synths. In this year I also mixed some Death-Metal bands In various │
│ studios. With the nineties came techno. │
│ │
│ My impressions of early Techno-music were very mixed, I went to some │
│ illegal Acid-parties under the roofs of new-built, empty skyscrapers in │
│ east berlin, but I did not like the original techno sound, it was too │
│ monotonous and the sounds were so cheap! In 1992 I got interested in │
│ Trance as it contained more melodies, feelings and actual content than │
│ earlier techno. After having been to some hard-trance parties I decided │
│ to try my own trance-variant called Xenomorph in late 1993. By that time │
│ it was still Hard-trance orientated (148-190 Bpm) with very sentimental │
│ melodies but already conceptionally dark. In early 1995 I was focussing │
│ more on Goa-sound (as it was called at that time) after Goa-Gil, the old │
│ geezer, fixed me with hours of banging tunes on a local Goa-Party. In my │
│ eyes Goa- or Psy-Trance was the logically consistent development of EBM │
│ or hard electronic music in the nineties. │
│ │
│ The newer Xenomorph-sound was a consequence of intensive conceptional │
│ reflection. I wanted to convert dark fatalistic visions into │
│ trance-music giving the music a new dimension of being a sonic prophecy │
│ of the end what is admittedly non-typical for the more or less │
│ message-less Psy-Trance, but I had to dare this approach. The first song │
│ of this new kind was "Apocalyptic Ritual" in january 1995 followed by │
│ "Carnage Vision" which is the bonus track on the cd-single koyote 13. │
│ The song "Obscure Spectre" (also koyote 13) is the incantation of an │
│ evil entity (By that time we were legions, as we were many.) Xenomorph │
│ is a greek word and means strange, unknown shape. Music that takes you │
│ on a journey to an unexplored, sinister place. Night-time sound which │
│ represents the dark side but together with the morning-sound │
│ (representing the light side) belongs to the whole, the universe being │
│ split into darkness and light. There is not one without the other. The │
│ first Xenomorph-Album is called "Cassandra Nightmares". Cassandra was a │
│ female visionary in greek mythology that knew about the end of the │
│ world, but was not able to warn others. The album is meant to give a │
│ nightmarish insight into her possible endtime visions and fears. I don┤t │
│ think I suffer the cassandra complex but I believe in the cataclysmic │
│ theory that describes how civilisations wax and wane in a circular way │
│ because there's nonlinear development in nature, so mankind won┤t be │
│ able to reproduce in a linear way. In fact the apocalypse would be any │
│ process that decreases the world population in a large scale like │
│ diseases, catastrophes or wars. │
│ │
│ The concept behind "Cassandra Nightmares" is to remind of the danger of │
│ the end, the abyss, the dark side, the abominations of necroid │
│ millennia, expressions haunting visionaries` minds. A challenge to │
│ encounter your innermost fears. Each track interprets a different type │
│ of fear opening a gateway to hell, unexplored dimensions, physical and │
│ psychological states and dreams. I played live among other venues on a │
│ Horror-Trance party by the Gnostic possy (june 1997 in the bka/berlin) │
│ which was the release party for koyote 13. On April 25th 1998 I did a │
│ live PA and a Dj-set in Tyssen Street Studios/London at Enlightenment , │
│ which was a pucker party. In germany I have been Djing since january │
│ 1996 under the name of DJ Charon (greek mythology) and played many │
│ indoor- as well as outdoor-parties. My only side-project was Lunatic │
│ Sheik which is more arabian power-trance and in june 1996 I did an │
│ open-air live gig on the Insel in Berlin. I did some projects with local │
│ DJs, but there was never a satisfying collaboration. My main │
│ inspirations are apocalyptic movies, followed by literature, world-news │
│ and obscure open-air party horror-trips. I admire the work of John │
│ Carpenter (director) ; he can create very scary claustrophobic │
│ atmospheres! Other movies which inspired me were: Aliens 1-4, The │
│ Exorcist 1-3, Seventh Sign, Omen 3, God`s Army, Warlock the Armageddon, │
│ Nostradamus, Lost Highway, Seven, Terminator 1 and 2, Strange days, │
│ Scanners, Shining, Roman Pollanski movies, 2001, Hellraiser, Stargate, │
│ Naked Lunch, The Crow, Blade Runner, Outbreak, The Stand, Evil Dead, │
│ Predator, Dustdevil, Naked,Red Dawn, Animal Test videos... │
│ │
│ My roots of musical inspiration which I still like are various bands of │
│ different styles like: Skinny Puppy, Frontline Assembly, Front 242, │
│ Einstuerzende Neubauten, Depeche Mode, Killing Joke, NIN, And also the │
│ Trees, Ultravox, Clock DVA, SPK ,Test Dept., Sleeping Dogs Wake, Alien │
│ Sex Fiend, Dead can Dance, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, Laibach, │
│ Christian Death, Obituary, Fear Factory... There┤s not too much │
│ Psy-Trance that I rave about, except Process, Hallucinogen,TIP, some │
│ Sandman tracks, Space Tribe, Syncro, some from Psychopods, some X-Dream │
│ and some more that don┤t come into my mind right now. │
