█ █ Arrowsmith catches his wife Muriel █ █
█ █ (Steele) with her lover David in their █ █
█ █ greenhouse. In a rage, he attacks them █ █
█ █ both and chains them up. He furiously █ █
█ █ whips and tortures them culminating in █ █
█ █ their eventual deaths by electrocution. █ █
█ █ The sparkling electrical effects are █ █
█ █ very bad in this scene it has to be █ █
█ █ said. █ █
█ █ The doctor then marries Muriel's step █ █
█ █ sister Jenny, who apart from having █ █
█ █ blonde hair instead of Muriel's brown is █ █
█ █ the spitting image of her. Obviously █ █
█ █ this is also played by Steele who again █ █
█ █ plays a duel role as she did in Mask of █ █
█ █ Satan. On the first night Jenny spends █ █
█ █ in the house she finds it very difficult █ █
█ █ to sleep and is spooked by a vision. She █ █
█ █ sees a reenactment of Muriel and David █ █
█ █ getting caught in the greenhouse █ █
█ █ together. The clever thing here is that █ █
█ █ in her vision Jenny sees herself in the █ █
█ █ role of Muriel (blonde hair in the █ █
█ █ vision) and she can't recognise the █ █
█ █ attacker as being Stephen because his █ █
█ █ face is completely featureless. It's a █ █
█ █ very clever scene that is only slightly █ █
█ █ marred by the acting out of slow motion █ █
█ █ by the actors. Stephen and the █ █
█ █ housekeeper do their best to drive Jenny █ █
█ █ into total madness, but perhaps she █ █
█ █ isn't quite as unstable as they think. █ █

█ █ There are quite a few familiar names in █ █
█ █ the credits. Co-writer Fabio de Agostini █ █
█ █ later directed Red nights of the █ █
█ █ Gestapo, and the director of photography █ █
█ █ Enzo Barboni, made a name for himself as █ █
█ █ the director of several westerns. Mario █ █
█ █ Caiano dabbled in many genres. This was █ █
█ █ his only gothic horror, but he also made █ █
█ █ gialli, westerns and even a Nazi █ █
█ █ exploitation film. █ █
