    █ █    comments  : Ennio Morricone is famous for his use of █ █
    █ █                evocative female voices, his capability  █ █
    █ █                for a very ethereal beauty, and tendency █ █
    █ █                for sometimes difficult avant garde      █ █
    █ █                listening. All facets are present in     █ █
    █ █                Veruschka, the 1971 film named after and █ █
    █ █                starring iconic sixties model Vera Von   █ █
    █ █                Lehdorff (her nickname was Veruschka).   █ █
    █ █                Though the film is rare and difficult to █ █
    █ █                see, it apparently tells a love story    █ █
    █ █                that mirror's Veruschka's real life      █ █
    █ █                relationship with the film's director    █ █
    █ █                Franco Rubartelli, and is filled with    █ █
    █ █                visions of Veruschka as the human object █ █
    █ █                of art. The exploration of the woman's   █ █
    █ █                body as a work of art earned the film a  █ █
    █ █                subtitle 'Poetry Of A Woman', which is   █ █
    █ █                also a perfect description of the film's █ █
    █ █                music: just as the film seems to deal    █ █
    █ █                with the enigma of the model, so         █ █
    █ █                Morricone's music is lush, dreaming and  █ █
    █ █                erotic. It gazes in a dreamlike way that █ █
    █ █                varies between sheer spirituality and    █ █
    █ █                psychedelia.                             █ █
    █ █                                                         █ █
    █ █                The score has essentially two themes.    █ █
    █ █                'Veruschka' itself is an erotically      █ █
    █ █                charged theme dominated by the voice of  █ █
    █ █                Ella Dell'Orso, whilst 'La Bambola' is   █ █
    █ █                more the childlike theme, equally        █ █
    █ █                dominated by the voice. The former       █ █
    █ █                seduces us to the enigma of the woman    █ █
    █ █                while the latter seems to expose her     █ █
    █ █                whimsical qualities. Both have a         █ █
    █ █                surrounding, soaking, absorbing effect:  █ █
    █ █                starting with ethereal, daydreaming      █ █
    █ █                echoes but soon lifting and leading the  █ █
    █ █                listener into light jouie de vivre       █ █
    █ █                buoyancy. Naturally, these main themes   █ █
    █ █                are repeated heavily, but the variations █ █
    █ █                are wonderful.                           █ █
    █ █                                                         █ █
    █ █                Veruschka is quite simply a wonderful    █ █
    █ █                score. Perhaps weird and difficult in    █ █
    █ █                extracts, but as a seventy minute        █ █
    █ █                complete listen it is a rewarding        █ █
    █ █                odyssey into a daydreamy world of erotic █ █
    █ █                and spiritual beauty.                    █ █
