The "Rio Edits" series returns with another set of Latino-tinted
bombs aimed at the dancefloor. "Skinny-O" is a brilliant take on a
samba classic. It's a remix full of anticipation and excitement -
so much so that youÆll immediately feel transported to an outdoor
party on the beach of Botafogo. Side B opens with "Carnivale",
another edited samba classic from back in the day. We end with a
brilliant female vocal tune, again on a samba / Latin-jazz tip, and
another anthem. it's putting me to shame that I can't remember the
names of ANY of them - where's a Latin spotter when you need one
(Oi! Mike Chadwick! Get in here quick and tell me what they are!)
It would be nice to be able to name the tracks, but in the end it
doesn't really matter - the party-starting quality shines right
through here! As if by magic Mike Chadwick came back from holiday
in Brazil (with first degree sunburn) just to tell us that
"Skinny-O" is an edit of Viva Brazil's "Skin-Do-Le-Le" and
"Carnivale" is Lonnie Liston Smith's "Mardi Gras".
