ave already been to a rhythmic noise. Now, try to imagine :::::::::
the same context of loudness, rhythm and heaviness but :::::::::
replace the music with a fucked up mix of jungle, gabber, :::::::::
reggae, industrial, everything going quite fast. Welcome :::::::::
to a breakcore party. And now imagine you were to record :::::::::
the mixes directly from the PA: you get a mix-CD, :::::::::
something that, as far as I know, hasn't been really done :::::::::
in industrial or noise music, and is more frequent for :::::::::
techno compilations. This one, "Three the hard way", :::::::::
features three mixes, by England's DJ Scud (from Ambush :::::::::
records), Bombardier (from the USA, connaisseurs will :::::::::
recognize his name from the "XXXd Generation" compilation) :::::::::
and N1tro, a newcomer from Berlin. :::::::::
:::::::::
Dj Scud, probably the best known artist on this disc, :::::::::
starts with his very typical and very, very well done mix :::::::::
of jungle and heavy beats, with a lot of voice samples and :::::::::
danceable broken rhythms. This material is rather close to :::::::::
the other material I have heard from Scud and, even though :::::::::
I recognize the talent in the mixing and the homogeneity :::::::::
in the sounds and tracks, I am not always seduced by this :::::::::
first part of the CD. Really not bad, but not always my :::::::::
thing. I guess it's just a matter of taste, however, and :::::::::
people into ultra heavy and slightly noisy jungle should :::::::::
love this. :::::::::

Next is Bombardier, who is clearly the most industrial DJ :::::::::
of the CD. His set starts quite slowly, but then turns out :::::::::
into a mayhem of noise, gabber and saturated samples in :::::::::
its second half. The sounds here are noisier than DJ :::::::::
Scud's, and also closer to the "usual" rhythmic noise :::::::::
sounds. Darker and building in a more classic way, this is :::::::::
maybe the least surprising set of the three for most of :::::::::
the readers of Recycle Your Ears, but it is also the one :::::::::
that would be the most successfull on a dancefloor, in my :::::::::
opinion. Reminding somehow of the two excellent :::::::::
"Biomechanik" compilations by Manu le Malin, this is :::::::::
industrial gabber-ized techno of the first class. One will :::::::::
also notice the samples from Babyland on "Stomach" and the :::::::::
vocals by Kids 606 on "White heat". :::::::::

Less noisy but even more full of sounds and really more :::::::::
broken and dismanlted are the 18 tracks by the german :::::::::
N1tro. Mixing breakcore, jungle and a huge lot of samples :::::::::
ranging from classical music to movies, and supported by :::::::::
the voice of MC Conen, this guy signs a really heavy and :::::::::
powerful mix of breakcore and jungle. Sometime a bit :::::::::
tongue-in-cheek, sometimes a bit too fast changing, this :::::::::
could be described as Dj Scud's mix running through a :::::::::
Venetian Snare-ing machine, with the kind of mood that was :::::::::
on Panacea's "Phoenix Metabolism". All in all, pretty :::::::::
heavy to accept the first time, but really nice once you :::::::::
get the kick of it. :::::::::

All in all, "Three the hard way" present three different :::::::::
and well done mixes. The styles are rather different, and :::::::::
the disc is well built toward more and more violence. :::::::::
Bombardier's set is a real nice aggressive rhythmic noise :::::::::
mix, and N1tro's one is energetic, broken and rich, just :::::::::
like it should. On the other hand, this stays mixed tracks :::::::::
(even though most of them were written by the DJs :::::::::
themselves), and it's difficult, if not impossible, to :::::::::
spot one track in particular (the longest playing for 2 :::::::::
minutes and 43 seconds). But yes, the hard way is the good :::::::::
way." :::::::::

Some say we have grown to a mature group now that we are 2 years :::::.

The artists we deal with are not rock stars. They don't pretend ::::::
to be 'the man'. They're not part of the establishment, the multi- ::::::
million dollar music business. So the only way our scene can stay ::::::
alive is through undying support for the artists and labels. *THIS* ::::::
is the sole reason we release music... ::::::

So for fuck's sake, if you like what your hear, go to your local ::::::
record shop and purchase a copy of your own. It's your duty! Only ::::::
through this process we can all continue to enjoy techno music to ::::::
the fullest. As far as our releases go, if you can get hold of them, ::::::
be happy and treasure them. Don't start posting to public domains ::::::
or sources!! This will eventually result in a more restricted ::::::
distribution of our releases, possibly even only internal... ::::::
