Clara Rockmore is hot off the presses,
joining the ranks of classics like
Mikl≤s R≤zsa's soundtrack album for
"Spellbound" and Harry Revel's "Music
Out of the Moon" LP.
In the words of the record label, the
erstwhile Mississippi Records from
Portland, Oregon, "This LP, originally
recorded and released by Delos
International in 1977, features the
eerily beautiful Theremin accompanied by
piano (played by Nadia Reisenberg). A
record of stark simplicity and emotional
intensity. Mississippi is proud to
present the first ever vinyl reissue of
this material. Gatefold tip-on cover
with extensive liner notes detailing the
history and inner workings of the
Theremin and Clara Rockmore." And in the

Presented by electronic music gods
Shirleigh and Robert Moog, the album was
Rockmore's last official release on
vinyl. She was 66 at the time, although
her career with the spooky, high-pitched
instrument stretched all the way back to
the 1930's, when the former child
prodigy violinist was trained by its
inventor, Leon Theremin himself.
Biography's frequently suggest that
Rockmore's uncanny handling of the
Theremin was a result of her training in
classical music and her absolute pitch.
