BIO:
Once upon a time Daniel Blacksberg, Katt Hernandez and Evan
Lipson all found themselves living in West Philadelphia.
Playing in multiple ensembles with one another in various
configurations, it didn't take long to recognize that there
was a camaraderie when they would perform. However, to make it
a special occasion when they joined forces, Michael Evans was
added to the line up, and Psychotic Quartet was born!
ôTrombonist Dan Blacksberg, violinist Katt Hernandez and
bassist Evan Lipson are some of PhillyÆs busiest, most
advanced and idiosyncratic improvisers. Their run-ins with New
York-based drummer-thereminist-conceptualist Michael Evans are
fairly infrequent, but sufficiently way-out to warrant a label
of mental illness. Blacksberg explains: ôYouÆre not seeing
whatÆs there; youÆre seeing some weird extrapolation that
comes from the processes of your brain. Reality comes through
in the filter. The filter is whatÆs psychotic.ö Got that? Come
ready for a colloquy reflecting divergent backgrounds in free
jazz, noise rock, ethnic music, microtonal playing and
kitchen-sink aesthetics. And watch out when these cats go off
their meds.ö
