|   |  An especially strong showing for the Explorer's Club series, this  |   |
|   |  edition features the Keith Keniff (aka Helios and Goldmund)        |   |
|   |  related Mint Julep and sound artist extraordinaire, Janek          |   |
|   |  Schaefer. Mint Julep find Keniff taking on a kind of modern        |   |
|   |  shoegaze project, and perhaps as you'd imagine, the production is  |   |
|   |  just sublime, channelling the dreamlike sounds associated with     |   |
|   |  the classic works of the genre whilst dropping in plenty of        |   |
|   |  modern muscle thanks to a heavy beat and soaring guitars. The      |   |
|   |  female vocals seem to melt into the arrangement in all the right   |   |
|   |  ways too - the whole piece is brilliantly conceived and presented  |   |
|   |  - as good an update on classic 4AD sounds as you'll get. Taking    |   |
|   |  on a very different persona, Janek Schaefer's contribution to the  |   |
|   |  release launches into a disorientating soundscape. Played out      |   |
|   |  across just under eight minutes, it's unusual to encounter         |   |
|   |  Schaefer's music in such a modestly proportioned burst, but        |   |
|   |  'Exposure' is drenched in atmosphere, carrying a real sense of     |   |
|   |  physicality, place and purpose. Two very different pieces here     |   |
|   |  then, but the contrast works wonderfully well.                     |   |
