Another HOT Release from aAF!
In 25 years, Brian Setzer has rocked this town, rumbled
in Brighton, ripped it up, jumped, jived, wailed, revved
it up and gone. He's piled his share of platinum records
and Grammys into his closet, above that little Supro amp
(more about that later). He's kicked a new slant on
holiday tunes, Boogie Woogie Christmas, into many
retailers' Top 10.
That guitar sound is the backbone of Nitro: flat and
intimate on "To Be Loved," muscular, with a roadhouse
menace, on "Sixty Years," scratchy and raw on "Drink
Whiskey and Shut Up," shimmering and moody on "Wild
Wind." Setzer wrote all the originals on Nitro based on
the riffs inspired by these sounds, matching his words
to the right feel, and then called his guys down to Palm
Springs to start tracking.
In contrast to the bitter fatalism of "Sixty Years,"
"St. Jude" offers a plea for rescue, in language more
naked in its faith and need than anything Setzer has
ever ventured. "I hate to say anything about 9/11,
because everybody exploits the hell out of that," he
points out, "but we've been hearing all kinds of stuff
about what we should do: we should beat people up, we
shouldn't beat people up, we should do this, that, and
the other thing ... but how about prayer? I believe in
prayer; I never let that out in a song before, but it's
true. And sometimes it's the most important thing you
can do."
"It comes from day-to-day life," Setzer shrugs. "I never
really think about whether it's commercial or not. I
wouldn't have done the Stray Cats or the big band if
that had been a concern, because people thought I was
crazy for doing both of those things. The only thing was
that, as I was doing Nitro, I did sometimes think, 'I
wonder ... do I really want people to know this much
about me?' But I guess I do, because Nitro really is
me."
Look for Setzer to present much of the Nitro material
onstage during the trio segment of his big band shows,
booked throughout the States from Thanksgiving through
Christmas.

aAF was created in Jan 2001 to fill a void left in the scene
by groups who would refuse to release anything but current
year music.Well since that time we have been rocking the
scene with classic rock rips.We have made classic music
mainstream in the scene and have been on top in that area as
the number one group in classic rips. We finished 2001 with
3800 rips.As we moved forward in 2002 we found we were also
releasing alot of quality 2k2 rips and saw that we were competing
in that area.In 2002 we finished with over 5000 rips.In 2003 we
plan to move forward and continue to release "THE NEW STUFF" and
strive to be on top in 2k3 rips.We will also continue to remain
on top like we have for 2 years in the classic rock scene.
It's not the Year that Matters it's the Music
aAF Forever
