     Born in Paris in 1962, Thierry Machuel is both composer and
     pianist. His teachers at the Conservatoire National SupΘrieur
     de Musique de Paris included Jacqueline Lequien (advanced
     solfeggio), Alain Bernaud (harmony), Jean-Claude Henry
     (counterpoint), Michel Merlet (fugue) and Serge Nigg
     (orchestration). He has also benefited from much
     knowledgeable advice from Jacques CastΘrΦde. He has currently
     composed more than forty works, some thirty of which are for
     unaccompanied choir and which use texts by contemporary
     French or foreign poets. He has been awarded several
     international awards, including the Pierre Cardin Prize of
     the AcadΘmie des Beaux-Arts in November 2001. He was resident
     at the Villa MΘdicis in Rome from 1996 to 1998 and was a
     member of the Casa de Velazquez in Madrid from 1999 to 2001.

     Machuel describes his composition The invisible kingdom as
     follows: The cycle that I have chosen to create with these
     texts describes the cycle of life and death. This cycle is a
     perpetual state of change for all things: in it we separate
     ourselves from what we have been so that what we must become
     may be realised; sadness itself must be purified in it.
