| | After nearly 40 years languishing in the Afro-beat annals, | |
| | Hedzoleh's fusion of traditional Ghanaian and western rock music | |
| | is reissued by the brilliant Soundway crew. Their debut album | |
| | 'Hedzoleh' will be known to many as the backing for legendary | |
| | Afro-jazz trumpeter Hugh Masekela's classic 'Masekela - | |
| | Introducing Hedzoleh Soundz' where all bar two of the tracks are | |
| | actually original recordings byt he band. After being introduced | |
| | by mutual friend Fela Kuti, Hedzoleh handed over their debut | |
| | album recording to be used by Masekela. This version featuring | |
| | the band plus trumpet would become widepsread and well known, but | |
| | the trumpet-less original hasn't seen the light of day for nearly | |
| | 40 years. It's an incredible mix of irresistible tribal drumming, | |
| | chants, and languid guitars, known is Ghana as "West African | |
| | Highlife", and utterly charming to the rest of the world. This is | |
| | one of the best in a glut of recent Afro-beat reissues and should | |
| | be recommended to any lovers of Fela Kuti. Heavy! | |
