Release Notes :
The "Deep" EP is a collection of remixes from the "Techopolis" EP, Hijacked
Records Detroit's launch into the digital realm. What's really exciting about
this release is that this is something we have not yet seen from Hijacked
before. Here we see Hijacked visit more of a house oriented element. Each track
is smooth, sexy, and a really interesting take on the originals. The EP opens
with "The Buckin Fump", a remix of "Lansdowne" by Lunar Phaze. This track
promotes a real feeling of movement with synths that change up frequently and
almost seem to build a new track. Lunar Phaze is an artist known to excel in the
art of remixing. His own personal style that he brings to each track is what
really leaves that feeling of depth. Think "Purveyors of Fine Funk." The second
track is really fitting, coming from Alan Oldham, aka DJ T-1000, as he played
our "Techopolis" record release party. We were lucky and grateful to have Alan
remix "Funky Negro." DJ T-1000's "Back to the Old School Remake" is just that,
old school, but it's also something else. In all my years, your years,
everyone's years, has anyone ever heard Alan Oldham make a deep track? After you
listen to it, you can't help but wonder why he doesn't do it more often. Alan
uses warm synths, twangy bass reminiscent of Mr. Fingers, haunting strings and
of course a sample boasting the importance of old school. The final track is
Anatone's "Broadview Mix". Here we see "Lansdowne" move in an entirely different
direction. While Anatone is widely known and respected for his production on the
minimal circuit, he is also highly acclaimed for super funky, get down house DJ
sets. A personal favourite, I might add. I never thought I would describe a
minimal track as warm but here we are. Anatone successfully melds elements from
different styles of music to produce a really well rounded track. The beat has
that low shuffle sound that you often hear in minimal, but he also uses a
classic house snare and highs. He infuses some glitchy sounds and a sexy female
vocal, all with a resonating chord which gives it that warm feeling I was
referring to. I can't express how much I love this EP, not only for the tracks,
but because we're seeing Hijacked evolve without sacrificing on quality of
sound. "DEEP DEEP DEEP INSIDE, DEEP DEEP DOWN INSIDE, DEEP DEEP DEEP INSIDE,
DEEP DEEP DOWN INSIDE"
