Only about a year too late, Melodic release this two track Lucky
Pierre remix seven to our much delight. Both original tracks are
taken from Aidan Moffat's outstanding debut 'Hypnogogia', in which
Moffat toyed with simple 808 beats and sampled orchestras, a
phenomenal album that is critically ignored.
The A-side sees the loveable Minotaur Shock take on Pierre's 'The
Heart Of All That Is', it's all cut up vocals and percussion led.
It changes course no less then about 1000 times, a thoroughly
enjoyable listen that sounds different with each play. Using loads
of turns and twists to hook you in, the original guitar piece is
sped up, and overlayed with twee electronics and fast drums.
Sounding Lemon Jelly in parts, it's a great upbeat departure from
the Shock of old.
Pedro apears on the flip with a nice version of 'Sometimes I Feel
Like A Motherless Child', the downbeat original turned into a
full-on scale 2 step attack. As always, Pedro chooses harsh beats
with gorgeous simplicity, the results as wonderful as you'd expect
from such talent. The original strings are cut into tiny bursts as
fast, hard drums hit from every angle. Percussion and beats build
into a sublime crescendo with only the faintest hint of an
orchestra.
The winner of best cut has to go Pedro hands down... (but only
just). Both remixes are true of their word, complete reworkings
that are as strong as the originals if not more. No lazy rehashed
tunes with a faster drum pattern slapped over the top here. Comes
on mega limited picture vinyl - an essential purchase.
