Q. Who are the Coffee Protection Society, what do they want,
and is it true they have recorded their second album?
A. Yes, and it is Q&A. A bold and sophisticated work, this record
is somehow both timeless and modern. Soul, gospel, electronica,
even a mariachi band - it's all here, with an emphasis on good old
fashioned songwriting. As with CPS's first album, Don't Forget to
Smile, the vocals are smooth and classy.
This time around it's Virna Sanzone and Dee Vardi, two bright
young Sydney singers, who feature up front. Pete Veliks and Jim
Fish, producers and multi-instrumentalists, make up the quartet.
Perfect music for relaxation - fix yourself a hot beverage and let
the Coffee Protection Society do the rest.
Here's a quirky idea from this unusual Sydney group. Take the
essence of the 1950s and the early 1960s, a couple of great
female voices (in this case Virna Sanzone and Dee Vardi), add
some old-fashioned horns, a bit of doo-wop harmonising, some
snippets of soul, lots of compulsively catchy hooks out of the Burt
Bacharach songbook and an ambience that mixes summer
happiness with timeless pop. The end result is an album of songs
that sound familiar but is really a supremely clever pastiche of
pop styles. Typical is Even When You Get What You Want, which
sounds like Kylie meets Abba.

aAF was created in Jan 2001 to fill a void left in the scene
by groups who would refuse to release anything but current
year music.Well since that time we have been rocking the
scene with classic rock rips.We have made classic music
mainstream in the scene and have been on top in that area as
the number one group in classic rips. We finished 2001 with
3800 rips.As we moved forward in 2002 we found we were also
releasing alot of quality 2k2 rips and saw that we were competing
in that area.In 2002 we finished with over 5000 rips.In 2003 we
plan to move forward and continue to release "THE NEW STUFF" and
strive to be on top in 2k3 rips.We will also continue to remain
on top like we have for 2 years in the classic rock scene.
