it took tim wijnant two years to complete the successor of his
debut-album "gravity=love". meanwhile he discovered the advantages
of free hot meals whilst touring (inter)nationally on renowned
festivals such as pukkelpop, earational, toonfestival, (k-raa-k)3
festival, aller et retour, brugge 2002. collaborated with k÷hn,
remixed work for o.lamm.
all this resulted in a stream of ideas, influences which were put
into this new album. thereÆs a continuity with "gravity=love", but
the overall sound of "the wide album" is fuller and deeper. the
attention to mastering his tracks into the tiniest detail proved
to be the right way. this is a mature cd ranging him amongst the
likes of pimmon/fennesz/markus schmickler.
"the wide album" is a progressing work. started out by collecting
"sounds" from different sources. manipulated, and processed into
rough tracks and fitted alongside one another until a definite
version was completed and fine-tuned as a whole. an album, which
will not only appeal, electronica-fans worldwide, but also the
more adventurous pop-listener and the avant-garde scene. itÆs a
musical history trip almost without the use of conventional
instruments. ovil bianca is one of the few electronica-artists
whom still discover new territories within a listenable concept.
this is probably a result to his statement about being influenced
by syd barrett, dj tiesto, bonzai records and wesley willis. these
influences say off course more on the mental state of ovil bianca
then on actual musical references of this cd.
witnessing a live-concert an ovil bianca concert is something
completely different. passed concerts proved that it actually
works for rock-audiences as well as art galleries. a challenge for
mind and ears, which can be heard as an extra on this cd. ovil
bianca insisted to include his pukkelpop 2001 performance as extra
mp3 on his album. not only as a memory, but also to give an idea
how a minimal set up also works on big stages and how lives
performance has influenced this cd. another extra comes with a
quicktime-movie from bart stolle who is a respected video-artist
within underground (and not-so-underground)-circles.
