Daniel Ibbotson arrived in Glasgow at the beginning of the nineties.
He came from his hometown in Derby to study photography at the world
-renowned Glasgow School of Art. "It's dead good in Glasgow", is the
simple reason he offers for quitting derbyshire in favour of a life
in no mean city. As he progressed through his course, the varying
facets of Glasgow's burgeoning club culture distracted him somewhat
from his studies and gently cajoled him into a recording career.
already a classically-trained guitarist, Ibbotson picked up a second
-hand synth and with the aid of little more than the basics began
threading together rhythms that attracted the attention of ground-
breaking labels such as Clear, Language and Compost. By the release
of his second EP, 'Far Places' on the Clear subsidiary Reel Discs,
his work was turning the heads of djs the world over. From Kirk De
Georgio to Kruder and Dorfmeister, Roger Sanchez to DJ Morpheus, a
whole host of tastemakers were checking their labels for the Ibbotson
seal of quality.
