Release Notes:
'Electric Flower' is patent Melvins: marching snares herald a distorted
western-influenced guitar line that propels a path into a groove laden
verse laced with the insidiously catchy vocal harmonies of Buzz
Osbourne and Jared Warren, only to pull the floor out into a dense
breakdown of undulating heaviness. In keeping with other entries in the
Scion A/V remix series, the reinterpretations on show here are nothing
short of radical reworkings, this time courtesy of UK DJ Doorly,
NY-based nu-disco producer Lovelock, UK dubstep pioneer MRK 1, and SF
based producer J Phlip. In a career whose most consistent attribute is
diversity of sound, few Melvins fans have heard the band in these
contexts, veering from Doorly's Ball-funk tapestry, to Lovelocks'
propulsive 80's industrial beat, to MRK 1 shifting the vocal line to a
toast atop a grimey dubstep beat, and finally to the comparatively
relaxing pulsating electronic tones of J Phlip's total song revision as
minimalist techno.
