██▌▄▀█ BOSS Proudly Presents a very special Gilles Peterson ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Worldwide this week featuring fantastic live sets ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ from Quantic Soul Orchestra, Russ Dewbury and Ty. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Quantic Soul Orchestra ------------------------------ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ "Putting Something Back" is how Will Holland ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ described the reason for starting The Quantic Soul ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Orchestra. Having released two successful albums on ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Tru Thoughts under his Quantic guise - 'The 5th ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Exotic' and 'Apricot Morning' (which fused jazzy and ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ breakbeat sounds), he felt his next musical adventure ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ would be to focus on the QSO debut album. The QSO is ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ a live project , strictly no samples allowed. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Influenced by Holland's love of the dusty 45's, he ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ wanted to record and produce an album with creative ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ and like minded musicians. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Russ Dewbury ---------------------------------------- ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ With the fledgling jazz dance scene based purely ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ around London in 1986, Russ Dewbury was one of the ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ UK's first DJs to focus on the powerful combination ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ of jazz and latin, resurrecting lost classics for a ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ whole new audience and supporting the newer emerging ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ jazz and funk acts of the time. From his original ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ decision to base his operations in Brighton, the rest ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ is now history. Dewbury opened Brighton's legendary ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ JAZZ ROOMS in 1987 and the club has since become the ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ longest running of all UK jazz dance sessions. The ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ JAZZ ROOMS has featured a who's who of international ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ DJs and is consistently packed, attracting dancers ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ from all over the country. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Russ Dewbury was the man behind the BGP label ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ (through Ace Records), one of the first jazz dance ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ labels to bring the original classics to a whole new ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ audience. Compiling albums from the vast catalogues ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ of a number of prestigious US labels, Russ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ established a quality label of recycled nuggets and ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ fresh compilations. The label has re-introduced ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ artists such as Terry Callier, New Rotary Connection ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ and Gary Bartz, establishing an essential position in ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ contemporary club culture. Russ organised the ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ infamous Fatboy Slim remix of Jean Jacques Perrey's ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ 'EVA' which gained the label a chart position. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Ty -------------------------------------------------- ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ When British MCs first parroted the subject matter of ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ American hip-hop in the 1980s, they sounded ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ unconvincing, as if they had witnessed gun violence ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ only on TV. It's a sobering thought that this is no ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ longer the case. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ An eloquent, compassionate lyricist, he has a knack ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ for arresting imagery, observing on Ha Ha: "In my ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ corner of the world faces disappear like memories/ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Only to appear on yellow noticeboards saying did you ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ see this or that felony." ░██▌▄▀
░██▀▄▀ ░██▀▄▀
