│ akiva began playing guitar while studying neurobiology at umass amherst in │
│ 1995. his songwriting evolved out of the process of working out grooves on │
│ guitar and improvising soulful, stream-of-consciousness vocals. the music was │
│ very sensual, very melodic, and very natural. as he progressed, he began to get │
│ the lyrics down on paper, and the words became insightful and profound, but │
│ retained the natural musicality that they had from the start. │
│ │
│ having been compared to something between g.love and dave matthews, akiva's │
│ musical influences are quite diverse, running the gamut from the jungle │
│ brothers to the gypsy kings. a traveler at heart, akiva once hitchhiked from │
│ southern england down to morocco...16 rides in 5 days. it was while traveling │
│ that akiva began performing more seriously, gigging in bars and popping up on │
│ local radio shows. │
│ │
│ eventually settling down in his hometown of merrick, new york, he hit the local │
│ bar and coffeehouse scene with a newfound confidence. he became known for his │
│ energetic stage presence and his prolific songwriting. a chance meeting with │
│ producer phil jimenez (wheatus) lead to his new cd, "bueno y sano". │
