Kenny Hawkes, the man behind London's most influential deep house
night, Space, is the next DJ in line to release a nite:life mix on
our acclaimed compilation series.
nite:life 017 features some of Kenny's staple house cuts from his DJ
sets over the last decade, including tracks from Octave One, Fresh
Tunes (Zki & Dobre) and Flux Mode (Nick Holder & Sirus) as well as
some fresh material from the likes of Mary (a Kenny Hawkes remix
exclusive to this compilation), Joshua's mix of Annie's 'I Will Get
On' and Tony Senghore's cracking mix of Brett Johnson's 'Broken'.
Kenny Hawkes has been one of the deep house scenes' leading lights
over the years. The Space mid-week night in London (run with Luke
Solomon) defined a sound in the mid 90's with frequent guests like
Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, Francois K and Cajmere injecting the
American influence into the British house scene, which in turn
inspired a whole bunch of UK DJs and producers to make their presence
felt overseas. Kenny has since gone on to hone a flourishing
production career, with releases on Paper, Music For Freaks and
Luxury Service, and remixes for PIAS, NRK and Tweekin.
nite:life 017 is out on November 24th on CD and unmixed 2X12" LP.
