Now four releases deep, Skudge follow the firing Aardvarck remix 12" with two
sides of killer techno reductions. Their classic-yet-fresh style has won favour
with jocks across the board, from Scuba to Ewan Pearson, finding the right
balance of subtle technical flair and innate Detroit funk. "Overture" is the
best example here, opening up a warm, whirring and effortlessly groovesome
rhythm underpinned by those stealthily building chords and rolling toms primed
to slip into an endless Ben Klock set. On the flip "Mirage" is just dripping
with that late, late night vibe, full of just-out-of-focus synths and driven by
a sensuous soulful house bassline with efficiently robust drums. Lay this one
down at 6am in the right club/house party and there'll be happy faces all round.
