▐███▄▄ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Collabs 100 is the first in a series of three ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ releases which see Speedy J working together with ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ other producers. This initial release unites Speedy ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ with Sweden's Adam Beyer over two tracks of ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ blisteringly intense hard dance music. It's possible ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ that this teaming came about following Speedy's ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ awesome recent remix of Beyer's 'Ignition Key' track. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Adam Beyer made his name in the mid-nineties, leading ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ a charge of Swedish techno producers and DJs, who ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ stormed their way out of Stockholm on a seemingly ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ relentless mission to make their mark on the ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ international scene. Beyer's meticulously sleek work ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ on his own his Drumcode and, later, Code Red labels, ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ carved a template in percussive, dancefloor-directed ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ techno, with his hyper-compressed drums and ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ infectious hooks. His ascension was assisted by his ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ impressive decks skills which he utilised to take his ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ sound across the globe. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Speedy's career spans even further back, though he ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ first came to prominence through his work on Richie ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Hawtin's fledgling Plus 8 label. Indeed, he was the ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ first oversees producer to grace the imprint. Since ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ then he's been responsible for an expansive catalogue ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ of work that has transcended genre pigeonholes û ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ exposing his versatility and unwillingness to be ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ considered 'just another techno producer'. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Both figures have displayed great staying power ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ within a business that craves new blood to take up ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ the gauntlet, and this must be credited, in part, to ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ the versatility of the artists themselves. However, ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ constant re-invigoration is not so much a considered ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ career move as an instinctual need for someone with a ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ genuinely intuitive need to push themselves as an ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ artist. In 2003, Adam Beyer launched a new label ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ named 'Truesoul', releasing the 'Ignition Key' album ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ and, in the process, demonstrating his flare for ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ creating music outside of the frame he's mainly ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ recognised for. Similarly, Speedy J's debut album for ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ novamute, 1997's 'Public Energy Number 1', confounded ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ and delighted in equal measure. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ Dues paid, and critics silenced, it's the dancefloor ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ from which both these men emerged, and with the ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ broader respect commanded from their more diverse ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ output, it's to the dancefloor to which they return ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ for this release. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ A) 'SJAB' is extremely direct in communicating its ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ intention, with no long intro despite running in at ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ 9.43 in total. You're dropped straight into the beats ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ at a punishing tempo but, as is common with Speedy's ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ work, there's plenty to engage you between the kicks. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ A complex web of grooves interact with each other û ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ quite possibly the work of Beyer, while your head is ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ spun out by the incredible dynamics that Speedy ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ brings to the mix û reverbs and live sounding delay / ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ chorus effects maintain tension, while intense ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ filtered drop-outs create suspense as you await the ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ inevitable re-introduction of the pummelling kick. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ The considerable length of the track passes quickly, ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ due to it's constant evolution, and there's scarcely ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ time to catch your breath, such is the intensity. ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ AA1) On 'BASJ', Adam Beyer's presence is much more ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ apparent. The heavier drums and hi-hat/clap pattern ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ are noticeably his, and the taught, instant as hell ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ groove shows why he's such an effective producer of ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ dancefloor techno. The sense of climax and release is ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ still present, but there's a much more primal drive ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ to this track, as opposed to the heady, heavily ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ effected A-side. The dense, almost horror movie ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ atmosphere prevails, however, sounding like an ░██▌▄▀
██▌▄▀█ amphetamine-fuelled Hitchcock soundtrack. ░██▌▄▀
