The welcome sight of a Toby Tobias EP on Nang is the label's latest
attempt to lay claim to hardest working imprint of 2010.
Tobias has already seen action on Under The Shade, Rekids and his
own Late Night Audio imprint this year and his debut release for
Nang sees him revisit a unappreciated gem from last year.
"Chick Chick" was easy to overlook on the bumper Tirk 02
compilation, given the track's esteemed company.
As the focal point of this EP, its qualities shine through via the
taut orgasmic funk, soft Rhodes flourishes and elastic fingered
bass patterns.
Tobias adds a 2010 update which adds more emphasis on the organs
for a deeper dancefloor cut.
The spirit of Moroder is evoked on "Rock You Will" and its
accompanying dub version with the energy of the latter having more
dancefloor impact.
It's the sprawling groove of "Fluffy Fruits" that's the real treat
here though. The track glistens with an organic energy, with the
vintage synths riffing off blinding key stabs and 303
undercurrents.
