Release Notes:
Jonjo has released 3 critically acclaimed singles
to date. His hotly anticipated debut album æIs Or
OkÆ is released on Numb Tongue on April 26 in all
territories.
ThereÆs a new sound on our musical landscape, itÆs
the sound you here when you solder microphone leads
into a telephone receiver and wire your guitar into
a bull horn in a quest for something other than the
bland populist tunes currently clogging up the
airwaves. ItÆs the sound of 21 year old Jonjo
Feather.
After a brief flirtation with classical training
Jonjo ditched tuition after hearing the likes of
Sonic Youth and Beck ô I kinda had an epiphany and
realised it wasnÆt about musical theory but making
a noise your happy withÆ says Jonjo.
Aged 20 Jonjo was at art college playing on the
local Leeds scene when he was invited to play the
Sidewalk in New York (where Beck and Regina Spektor
got their big breaks). ôWhen I got back from
America a couple of labels wanted to sign me, it
wasnÆt a difficult decision to quit collegeö.
Recording started almost immediately for his debut
single which received rave reviews and gained him
Featured New Artist of the Week on Sean KeaveyÆs
BBC 6Music breakfast show. Two more singles
followed with similar critical response and a live
session on Marc RileyÆs BBC 6Music show.
The album took a little more planning as Jonjo was
unhappy with most of the studios he tried,
describing them as æ Uninspiring black boxesö.
After several false starts recording began on the
album in a friendÆs barn where Jonjo began laying
down tracks playing all the instruments himself.
The resulting album is a collection of lo-fi pop
gems warped and skewed by degrees of fuzz, ten
razor sharp songs that are by turns, serious,
mischevious and tender, and display a strong and
unerring gift for melody.
A unique songwriter who subverts the rules whilst
maintaining control of a bucket of perfect
melodies, Jonjo will be touring in the UK, France
and Spain during 2010.
