The follow-up to Belgian beat-head Dirk Swartenbroekx's
acclaimed 1998 album "Mocha Supremo", "Our Girl In Havana" will
solidify his reputation a master of fusing well worn dancefloor
moods with exotic new expeditions into Cuban cool. Opening with
the smooth "Spooky Samba" and its breakbeat break-outs, Dirk
seamlessly rolls into the sultry electro-house of "First Flight
To London" and the bossanova boogie of "Ramiro's Theme", like
Dimitri From Paris with an extra beachball bounce. Dirk's mood
matches the swagger of chic Cuban grooves with a retrospective
sensitivity familiar to nearly all his records, a world where
beat boffins bow down to framed snapshots of Sixties cool and
Astrud Gilberto is a goddess. "Our Girl In Havana" closes down
with a cover of Berntholer's "My Suitor", as a sexy Portuguese
accent pours over a jazzy trail of breakbeats.
