INFO:
The remix album - almost a new twist on the
compilation - has become a new genre of late as
more and more artists, whether originally electronic
or not, hand over their source material or separated
tracks to remixers who then reinterpret their tunes
with remarkable deviations, many offering up
something closer to a 'covers' than a new mix of the
original. Here it's Adelaide's electronic over-achiever
Tim Koch (aka Thug) who puts his trust in both
domestic and international manipulators for a
rethink of his earlier album 'Please Don't Tell Me
That's Your Volvo'. Immediately befriending is
Disjunction Reunion's pristine digital-swing take on 'I
Split My Etnies' and Quark Kent's characteristically
interstellar remix of 'Binoce' featuring QK's usual
trickling particle-melodics and almost melancholic,
moonwalk style fonk. A strictly electro vibe pervades
the collection with perhaps the organic strings
doodlings of Raven (string quartet FourPlay's cellist
Peter Hollo) being an exception in non-electronic
sound sourcing, while the varied styles within the 15
tracks straddle gentle electro and digi-dub through
to crunchy beats and punchier rhythms. Featured
remixers include Bloq, Novel 23, Vim!, New
Zealand's Jet Jaguar and Proem for a consistent
and agreeable listen.
