Glass Throat Recordings are one of those labels that have surreptitiously
spread their high quality recordings in exquisite quality packages
throughout the underground, their ambient/noise artists stand apart from
each other yet compliment Glass Throat as a diverse label within what
is essentially a small but widely spread fan base. This, only the second
release, retains the tradition they begun in 1997.
Ruhr Hunter's incipience fumes a desolate and abrasive sound-scape with
the disassociate temblor of organic bells mocking a rhythm under the
excoriating wail of feedback. Hists of guitar, of which Ruhr Hunter is
known for, fragments noisily before being swallowed into the near
imperceptible drones and echoic plashes. Vehement distortion phases in
and out of walls of white noise, mechanically amplified sawing of strings
form jagged edges in the assault. Despite the intense and strident salient
composition Ruhr Hunter denouement is one of bleak and haunting lassitude.
Gruntsplatter, their very name suggests a 'Simon Bisley' like slaughter
or David J. Schow horror (in his splatter vein) short story, and their
part of the twain on this release lives up to its name in spades...
(literally for the unearthing the dead). Church bells chime while
sputtering frog like bleats wrestle with the clouds of cicadas that mist
a brooding twilight. This music could easily substitute soundtrack and
special effects of any number of suitable horror films of a B-grade
standard. The music delivers a cloying and coagulating bile that suffocates
the listener, no breath or reprieve here, as the squat, shuffling elder
god waddles with the inexorable doom of a legacy of genocide and destruction
echoing a foaming white train in its wake.
Thick navy blue card embossed in silver foil and print whose layout has
been made with diligence and care, the four page card booklet divided for
each band, runes and etchings succinctly stamped further enhance the
product.
