Release Notes:
--------
A mere four years after releasing their debut album The Snakes have produced
their second, and with it mount a serious challenge to The Redlands Palomino
Company to be recognised as the UKÆs best country-rockers. Theirs is a more
experimental sound than the RPCs, ranging from the sparse and stately opener
ôInterviewö to the dirty blues of ôRefrigerator Bluesö and ôJesus In A Boxö via
the soundtrack to a 1950s Western that is ôCumberland Breezeö (complete with
lonesome whistling) and the classic country rock of ôPromised Land.ö
The one thing existing fans should be aware of is that the bandÆs five track
2008 EP ôExtended Playerö is duplicated here in its entirety, so there are only
seven new songs. ItÆs also a pity that the sound, particularly the vocals, is
sometimes muddy, with ôPromised Landö and ôCome My Wayö suffering most but
regardless this is still an essential album for Brit country-rockers, indeed for
those from anywhere, and songs like ôWe Can Flyö, which could be a Burritos
outtake and boasts lovely light and infectious harmonies and tune are simply
irresistible.
