████ disconnected, and well, tetchy. These boys are ████
████ young, pissed off, and talented. They make a ████
████ racket that can be described as the Beatles in ████
████ a bad mood, or the Kinks in anger management ████
████ therapy. They bring us the album 'The Electric ████
████ Kool-Aid Cuckoo Nest'; they're that mugged off ████
████ they have to give it a crazy name. ████
████ ████
████ Grumpiness aside, Eight Legs do indie punk and ████
████ they do it well. There isn't much more to say, ████
████ to copy from the style of front man Sam Jolly, ████
████ there's no point going over the top or over ████
████ stating things. ████
████ They come from Stratford Upon Avon, play the ████
████ guitar with a loud jangle, bang the drums with ████
████ venom, and combine indie jauntiness with punk ████
████ menace. They're young blokes and seem to be ████
████ disillusioned with society in some way. In ████
████ WISH IT WAS THE 60's Sam proclaims: 'I wish it ████
████ was the 60's, drugs were still interesting, ████
████ sex was still liberating, and the kids were ████
████ still protesting.' I don't know if he's being ████
████ ironic or not. The song is great whatever the ████
████ intent. STAY COOL is funnily enough, a cool ████
████ song. But I don't know if that's cool to ████
████ admit, it's just all so confusing. ████
████ ████
████ Basically there's nothing more energising than ████
████ pissed off youth, heck, Nirvana sold a ████
████ squillion albums doing this kinda thing. ████
████ However, I don't think Eight Legs will have ████
████ the same impact. The production on the album ████
████ isn't the best for starters, there's no ████
████ variation in guitar sound, and minimal added ████
████ effects, which is where I guess the punk ethos ████
████ comes in, but it just makes it a tad boring ████
████ over an extended play. But in short bursts ████
████ you're onto a winner. It's a strange mix of ████
████ retro 60's sounding songs energised with punk ████
████ and sugar coated with indie jingle jangle, it ████
████ all seems to fit together well though, it just ████
████ creates an edgy atmosphere. ████
████ ████
████ BEST OF ME tumbles along at a fair old pace, ████
████ the drums bound along, guitars clatter here ████
████ and there, and snarling vocals are delivered ████
████ at high velocity. It did give me a bit of a ████
████ headache though, maybe I'm getting old. I ████
████ UNDERSTAND sounds like Iggy Pop and the Dandy ████
████ Warhols having an orgy. JUST SO YOU KNOW is ████
████ upbeat and melodic, with a catchy guitar riff ████
████ and chorus that will have you bouncing around ████
████ the room. I DON'T HAVE THE TIME is slower ████
████ paced and features a retro keyboard part that ████
████ adds variety and keeps the 60's flavour. THE ████
████ DYSTOPIAN NOT SO FUTURE varies the tone a ████
████ little. There's violins and an interesting ████
████ electric guitar part, the song is made more ████
████ atmospheric by some vocal harmonies as ████

████ Legs have created a modern sounding record ████
████ that refers back to the past without stealing ████
████ from it. At times it sounds like the Dandy ████
████ Warhols, the Coral, Pete and the Pirates, the ████
████ Rakes. All recent bands. It feels fresh and ████
████ lively and exactly the kind of music young ████
████ people should be making at this time. It's not ████
████ contrived, false, or marketed at anyone in ████
████ particular. It's indie. It's punk. It's rock ████
████ and roll. It's good. Buy it if you like all ████
████ these things and need a bit of a pick me up. ████
