The highly sought after 'Farmers Angle'
3"CD was the debut recording from Ghost
Box co-founder Jim Jupp and also the
label's very first release. Six years
down the line and it receives a timely
reissue, presented in a revised and
expanded edition with three bonus tracks
including one with The Advisory Circle.
Looking to the classic TV themes and
library music of his youth, creator Jim
Jupp set the template for the label's
whole aesthetic, from the textbook
sleeve to the frothy, pellucid
electronics inside. In the title track
and 'The Eleventh House' Jupp
beautifully articulates that neat and
proper English sensibility with the
subtle side effect of a peculiar,
surreal giddyness which has come to
define the label. Working with Jon
Brooks ov The Advisory Circle, the pair
draft the original 'Cold Air' into 'Warm
Air' for a gorgeously woozy experience,
before Jupp adds the extra chapters
'Your Stories' and 'Hither and Yon',
both encapsulating that feeling of
twilight countryside trepidation and
exquisitely crafted, cider-drunk
queerness. For fans of Raymond Scott or
Radiophonic Workshop this is an
essential purchase.
