c20 charm for Arbor. 'Lucifer Pt. II'
follows a gorgeous album for Type and a
stream of tapes for Night People, Agents
Of Chaos and Ekhein by travelling deeper
down the wires and across his dusty
circuit boards, tracing similar horizons
spied by Klaus Schulze and Vangelis over
25 years ago. Rene's sounds are
distinguished by their clarity of vision
and sensitivity to cinematic mood and
ambience, confident enough to travel
without moving under the cover of noise
and giving us an unbroken view from the
window of his one man shuttle. Right
through to the broken transcript of some
urgent conversation on the inlay,
there's a feeling of sci-fi drama and
questing drive to these five concise
compositions, from the vividly OPN-like
'Nil TV' and pastoral bliss of
'Surgery', to the narrowed-eye urgency
of 'VE 546', the lost-in-space
resignation of 'Ris X' and the baroque
end sequence of 'Open Gate', this is
probably one of the finest and highest
quality realisations of cosmic synth
music that we've heard all year. Fans of
Stellar Om Source, Arp, Dylan Ettinger
or OPN will get a very fine fix from
this one.
